one of my fathers favorite writers, Nikos Kazantzakis...

"By believing passionately in something that still does not exist, we create it. The nonexistent is whatever we have not sufficiently desired."

"A person needs a little madness, or else they never dare cut the rope and be free."

"Beauty is merciless. You do not look at it, it looks at you and does not forgive."

"Every perfect traveler always creates the country where he travels."

"Everything in this world has a hidden meaning."

"I expect nothing. I fear no one. I am free."

"I said to the almond tree, "Friend, speak to me of God," and the almond tree blossomed."

"In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can."

"My entire soul is a cry, and all my work is a commentary on that cry."

"Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see reality."

"The real meaning of enlightenment is to gaze with undimmed eyes on all darkness."

"You have your brush, you have your colors, you paint paradise, then in you go."

A thought to share today...

"What does 'it' want to be now...? And what about now...? How about right now?"

Can we allow ourselves to completely let go of the need or desire for 'it' to look or be a certain way? What if we decide to arrive at each moment with,

"What wants to be expressed in this moment? How can I listen more deeply to hear what wants to be heard?"

Can we allow ourselves the possibilty that everything may be a possibility ~ and that by simply listening without attachment we may have the opportunity to allow more full expression? How might this change our experience in each moment? And how then do we decide what and how to express what wants to be expressed?

We get quiet, we listen, we trust, we choose, and then we choose again...and again...and again...

einstein on imagination

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”

"Imagination is everthing. It is the preview of life's coming attractions."

"The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination."

the return...

"Soon the child's clear eye is clouded over by ideas and opinions, preconceptions and abstractions. Simple free being becomes encrusted with the burdensome armor of the ego. Not until years later does an instinct come that a vital sense of mystery has been withdrawn. The sun glints through the pines, and the heart is pierced in a moment of beauty and strange pain, like a memory of paradise. After that day, we become seekers."

-Peter Matthiessen

more abraham-hicks

"It doesn't matter what anybody else is doing with their vibration, it only matters what you are doing. You cannot desire something—and notice that it isn't coming—without offering two contradictory vibrations that won't let it come."

"Resistance is about believing that you are vulnerable or susceptible to something not wanted and holding a stance of protection, which only holds you in a place of not letting in the Well-being that would be there otherwise. There is nothing big enough to protect you from unwanted things -- and there are no unwanted things big enough to get into your experience."

"All is well. You did not come here to fix a broken world. The world is not broken. You came here to live a wonderful life. And if you can learn to relax a little and let it all in, you will begin to see the universe present you with all that you have asked for."

monday late afternoon...

“When we get out of the glass bottle of our ego and when we escape like the squirrels in the cage of our personality and get into the forest again, we shall shiver with cold and fright. But things will happen to us so that we don’t know ourselves. Cool, unlying life will rush in.” - D.H. Lawrence

celebrating & honoring MLK

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.

A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.

A riot is at bottom the language of the unheard.

Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better.

At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.

Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.

Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.

History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.

I submit to you that if a man hasn't discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it.

Life's most urgent question is: what are you doing for others?

Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.

The quality, not the longevity, of one's life is what is important.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.

Whatever your life's work is, do it well. A man should do his job so well that the living, the dead, and the unborn could do it no better.

We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

-Martin Luther King, Jr.

work is love made visible

"Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy. For if you bake bread with indifference, you bake a bitter bread that feeds but half man's hunger." - Kahlil Gibran

Calm Birth Workshop Saturday, December 19, 2009 2-6pm

Calm Birth -  December 19, 2009 2-6pm

The Calm Birth method is a set of three respected practices from meditation science. The practices work together to offer a new vision of a pregnant woman's body and potential. The Calm Birth method:

*Helps heal the nervous systems of mother and womb child in preparation for birth
*Builds women's ability to manage anxiety, fear, and pain during pregnancy and labor
*Strengthens the immune system of the mother and child
*Helps women discover their inherent healing nature
*Raises the quality of the childbirth experience.

The 'Calm' in Calm Birth does not mean silent of inexpressive; many Calm Birth's involve moving, sounding, and trusting what emerges from within. Calm Birth does mean labor characterized by inner strength, deep presence, and connection with our sacred nature of being.

The Calm Birth prenatal classes are focused primarily on the three practices: The Practice of Opening, Womb Breathing, and Giving and Receiving, centuries-old wisdom merged with current understandings of healing, the energy body, and quantum physics, and how they help women use innate ability that is most often not being used. It is integral and complementary medicine. Women are instructed in the methods to encourage natural childbirth as a primary option, but if medical interventions are used, the methods work with current childbirth medicine to raise the quality of the birth and heal the side effects of the medicine. The classes teach expanded childbirth anatomy, the inseparable energy body and physical body. Women learn to breathe with both bodies, all the way through labor and delivery. They learn healing and greater function in giving birth. Calm Birth is for Mama's-to-be, Papa's-to-be, Partners and Co-parents regardless of where you plan to birth.

In this Start With Love Calm Birth Workshop Calm Birth CD, workshop folder, and notebook are included as well as special discounts on prenatal/postpartum workshops and sessions. We will also have snacks and time for sharing!

I will also be offering packages including weekly support for couples, private practice sessions, and birth support for couples that are interested in sacred and conscious birthing. Please inquire by email if you would like more information.

Some praise for Calm Birth...

"I wholeheartedly endorse the Calm Birth program. This work is at the heart of healthy and empowering childbirth - an experience which has the power to transform and uplift a woman's relationship to her body and her child for life. Calm Birth is preventive and empowering medicine at its best."
Christiane Northrup, M.D., FACOG, author of Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom and Mother Daughter Wisdom

"Calm Birth is the childbirth method that society and I have waited for. It's been a long time coming, a very long time. I am a midwife and an educator, with a steady devotion to childbirth. I urge everyone to buy Robert Newman's inspired book...It does what is so deeply needed. It heals the Earth by healing birth."
Jeannine Parvati Baker, childbirth educator and midwife author of Prenatal Yoga and Natural Childbirth and Conscious Conception

Please email me at startwithlove@gmail.com for more information or to sign up!

Workshop is open to 3 couples.

a D.H. lawrence kind of day...

“The world is wonderful and beautiful and good beyond one's wildest imagination. Never, never, never could one conceive what love is, beforehand, never. Life can be great -- quite god-like. It can be so. God be thanked I have proved it.”

“It is no good casting out devils. They belong to us, we must accept them and be at peace with them.”

“The cruelest thing a man can do to a woman is to portray her as perfection.”

“My God, these folks don't know how to love -- that's why they love so easily.”

“Never trust the teller, trust the tale.”

“If a woman hasn't got a tiny streak of harlot in her, she's a dry stick as a rule.”

“Death is the only pure, beautiful conclusion of a great passion.”

“How beautiful maleness is, if it finds its right expression.”

“When one jumps over the edge, one is bound to land somewhere.”

“We don't exist unless we are deeply and sensually in touch with that which can be touched but not known.”

not knowing is most intimate

"So please, cultivate your beginner's mind. Be willing to not be an expert. Be willing to not know. Not knowing is nearest. Not knowing is most intimate. " - Zenkei Blanche Hartman
